Recent Art

I doodled this fish, and made it into a card for my sister's birthday.  Doodled with Indian ink pens and colored with water based markers.  I sealed the finished card with a sparkly glaze.  This type of doodle is my "go to" art when I need something relaxing.  I really enjoy drawing repetitive fill patterns.

I saw a swap on swapbot.com for a postcard swap with hand colored postcards.  I haven't swapped for quite a long time, but I was inspired to color a postcard & hope to join in on the swap.  I colored this with colored pencils, and added a little sparkly gel pen to the red areas.

I hope to post more art soon.  I have been dealing with a lot the past few years, but art is always great therapy & an escape from my troubles.

Spring Forward

egg-shaped ATC doodles with haiku
This brightly colored egg is actually an egg-shaped ATC (Artist Trading Card) that I made last week during another Art-a-thon at ATCsForAll.com.  It is a haiku poem as well as eye candy.  I used my "Blick Illustrator Markers" (alcohol markers) to color it & Wow! It is so bright!

So ... I have been arting around here & there - working on several things at once.  Here are a couple more:
junk journal collage
I collaged another page in my "Junk Mail Journal".   This little junk journal was made by taking the junk mail postcards that had accumulated near my computer, trimming them all to 4" x 6" or so, and spiral binding them into a book.  Then I just started pasting random bits inside to decorate the pages.

This page features clippings from printed scrapbook papers, punches, decorative cutting, some stamping, a little bit of paint and a little bit of pen work.  To see more, just click "junk mail journal" in the tags below.
ATC Coin (round ATC)
And ... just for fun.  I picked up a 2.5" circle punch at a super discounted price yesterday and decided to give it a spin.  I ran across these despicable characters & had a flashback to the "Wacky Races" I used to watch on Saturday morning as a child. lol.  Good Times.

I'm Back - Doggone it!

I doodled this card for my sister's birthday.  I thought maybe other folks would like it, so I uploaded the design to Zazzle:

I hope to get back to making more actual art.

Art-a-Thon Challenge

This weekend I have been playing in another Art-a-Thon and Challenge at ATCsForAll.com.  It runs through July 6th.  The challenge is somewhat of an artsy scavenger hunt.  You are given a list of themes, supplies, and challenges to make art & earn points for completing the various tasks.

For example, The ATC (artist trading card) shown above earned me 5 points!  I made the card for a combination of tasks: theme: cute monster, theme: bikini, craft: make paper flowers and use in your creation, and also a point for posting at least 1 finished project for the day.

Here are some more ATCs I made this weekend:
Hand drawn zebra - Indian ink and colored pencils. (theme: zoo, also theme: monochromatic).  I love the way this turned out.
Doodle fish - Indian ink pen and marker. (theme: zentangle animal, also use markers, and I posted a "show and tell" about my process to make this card).
Skele-shrooms - Printed paper and fiber embedded paper collage with a sticker, magazine cut-outs, hand drawn mushrooms colored with ink and sparkly gel pens, and some detailing with Indian ink pen and paint pen. (theme: skeleton, theme: mushroom and butterfly, use magazine cut-outs).

There is also fast and wild trading going on.  I have traded most of my cards already (you get points for that, too).  At the end, prizes are awarded for the top scorers. But, who needs prizes?  It's just a lot of fun to play with all the artists!

ICAD : Index Card a Day

acrylic paints and Sharpies
I plan to participate in the ICAD (Index Card a Day) Challenge this year.  Simply, it is a challenge to create some type of art on an index card each day.  There are optional themes to follow.  The ICAD challenge starts June 1st.

More info can be found here: http://daisyyellowart.com/icad-base/

PITT Indian ink pens
I made these index cards for a swap on Swap-Bot.  It was a 3 day version of the ICAD challenge in which the cards are sent to your swap partner.

colored pencils and alphabet stamps
3 days was no trouble ... I hope I can complete the 61 day ICAD challenge!

I picked up a gridded composition book a couple of weeks ago ... this is my first finished page.  Fun with 4 colors of PITT brush pens.

Happy Sunshine Doodle

Happy Summertime!  It's been a scorcher in Atlanta ... with more of the same planned for the coming week.

I am just putting the finishing touches on a "Doodle Zine" for a swap over at swap-bot.   I try to make at least one zine each year.  I believe this is my 11th one.

I always print extras for additional trades ... so if you have a zine (or just some doodles) - give me a holler & we can trade.

Tastes Like Chicken

Doodled this chicken in my sketchbook last night.   Used brand new Faber Castell pens (from Christmas).

Wednesday, February 25, 2015

I think this was the first time I picked up a pen since last October ... I doodled this yesterday.

Funny thing, I dated the front 2014 - I guess my brain still hasn't realized that it is 2015.  Hoping things get better.

Countdown to Halloween : 31 Days of Halloween Art : Day 10

Here are some ATCs (Artist Trading Cards) that I made for a swap back in 2008.  I had a lot of fun with these.

10 days down ~ 21 more days till Halloween!

Countdown to Halloween : 31 Days of Halloween Art : Day 6

I didn't have any pumpkins handy for carving. So over the weekend
I made this little Jack o'range.

Reminds me a bit of this little pumpkin headed boy I made for a Halloween ATC (Artrist Trading Card) swap in one of my art groups awhile back.

Hope you're having a spooktacular October so far!

Countdown to Halloween : 31 Days of Halloween Art : Day 2

Doodled with Faber Castell Indian ink pens in one of my sketchbooks.

I have always been drawn to masks - especially hand carved wooden masks from around the world.  I hope to have my walls filled with them some day.

On another note related to masks:
I was handed this card yesterday.

I can't quite figure out what I am looking at, though.
I was thinking grasshopper ... or maybe some kind of mutant bunny.

I guess I would have to go to "Daddy O's Tattoo a go go" to find out.

2 days down ~ 29 more days till Halloween!

Countdown to Halloween : 31 Days of Halloween Art : Day 1

Last week I walked face first into a spider web.  Eewww!  So ... I guess I have spiders on the brain.  This beauty was doodled with Faber Castell Indian ink pens in one of my sketchbooks.

I'm very happy to see all of the Halloween Spookfest tv marathons starting ... I hope to catch some of my favorite old spider flicks this month ~ I did manage to catch "Arachnophobia" last month, so maybe I will run into "Kingdom of the Spiders" or "Eight-Legged Freaks" or maybe just a little "Spider Baby".

1 day down ~ 30 more days till Halloween!

WTA Mailart - Fishy Postcard

I doodled this postcard for the winner of a WTA (winner takes all) contest in the "Amazing Mailart" group at swap-bot.  The winner likes hand drawn patterns and fish and postcards ... ok then.

Doodled with Faber Castell Indian ink pens, with a splash of glitter glue on the fish and coated with polyurethane varnish.
